I believe they were burgandy with an ecru colored band around the middle.

The box was burgandy with a cream colored ribbon that says American Girls Collection in burgandy letters. My Kirsten's box holds the Christmas candles and is in the basement if anyone needs a picture.

Cherry answered your question pretty much, but I was just going to let you know Meg also has an article on her website about the different boxes, etc. Our white-bodied Molly's box is burgundy.

History of boxes: the burgundy with ecru band were used through Felicity. My 1993 Felicity came in that color box. I don't know if Addy came in that color or not because I stored her box in the basement and it mildewed. The next variation was a shiny white top with very shiny imprints of the current AG emblem all over it and a burgundy band. Then in 1995 all the new AGOTs came in white box lids with a pinstriped indentation and the black AGOT band, with the sort of segmented, stylized girl on it. I think the next change was to the yellow box and then the current blue one.

The very first ones came in a burgundy box tied in ribbon, then they changed it to the ecru band. My white bodied samantha, molly and kirsten came in these as well as my original Felicity. I will check on Addy's box but she may have had a burgundy one as well.
